Wave Energy Converters

Like FOW, there are a multitude of Wave Energy Converter (WEC) concepts offered to the market. As well as varying hull forms, there are also a range of Power Take-Off (PTO) devices to convert wave energy into electricity, making the choice of optimum concept even more complex.

Our team has experience with a range of Wave Energy Converters (WEC) including oscillating air column devices and electro-active polymers (EAP) for power take-off. Both of these PTO concepts avoid submerged mechanical moving parts, which can pose a reliability issue for WEC devices.

WEC projects, being less mature than FOW, bring increased levels of risk from immature technology being deployed offshore. This makes a robust TRL process even more important for a successful project outcome.

Many of the services offered for FOW can also be applied to WEC-based projects, including;

  • Technology screening
  • Technology assessment
  • TRL maturity planning
  • Due Diligence
  • Cold Eyes Reviews
  • CAPEX estimates
  • OPEX estimates.
  • Project Execution Support
  • O&M Support
