Our primary focus is Floating Offshore Wind.  As we have no links to any specific FOW technology, we can offer an unbiased assessment of the many different FOW technologies available to help Project Developers understand the risks, opportunities, and mitigations available.

Our primary focus is supporting Project Developers to select and implement an optimised FOW solution for their projects.  This typically includes several steps.

Firstly, there are a myriad of FOW concepts being offered to the industry, with a wide range of technical maturity, performance, CAPEX and OPEX.  OWRL has developed a proprietary database of concepts, to facilitate rapid screening of new projects to shortlist potential best-fit technologies for any site.  Using our tools and experience, we can perform risk and opportunity assessments and identify possible mitigations to reduce risks to within tolerable levels.

We believe that the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) process is an essential tool to manage risk in a rapidly emerging market, and we have a robust Technology Assessment process to determine current TRL levels of any technology and generate a TRL roadmap to reach maturity.

Our database also allows us to generate ballpark and budget-level CAPEX and OPEX estimates for different FOW technologies, using proprietary estimating processes that have been tuned by drawing on our experience of numerous offshore energy projects.

We also offer Due Diligence and Cold Eyes Review services to Project Developers, Financial Institutions and the Insurance Industry.

Once projects reach the execution stage, OWRL performs the role of Owner’s Engineer to provide the Project Developer with services to oversee the performance of the contractors and suppliers engaged to execute the project.  This can start from the pre-FEED and FEED stages and continue through to offshore installation. Our management team has over 200 years of combined experience in floating offshore energy systems and uses this expertise to support our Clients through the EPCI phases of FOW projects.  By doing so, we can reduce the risk of cost and schedule overruns, through avoidance of  some of the common mistakes made in an immature industry.

During FOW field operations, OWRL brings experience in state-of-the-art Digital tools and solutions to optimise offshore operations & maintenance.  Moreover, we closely monitor the leading suppliers of Robotic tools for inspection and maintenance and believe that these will play an increasing role in improving FOW performance, maintainability and reliability.

OWRL can also offer our clients assistance in developing suitable contracting strategies and commercial models for FOW projects, and to explore multiple avenues to secure project finance.
